Local Opportunities to Protest this Saturday 4/19
Saturday April 19 #1-Hands Off Science - #2-Money for People, Not for War
Personally, I am most incensed over the threat to the rule of law presented by Trump and his administration’s refusal to lean on the president of El Salvador to send Kilmar Abrego Garcia back to the U.S.—after admitting that his rendition to El Salvador was a mistake. Abrego Garcia’s case is the clearest and most poignant known violation of our Constitutional protections, but there are over a hundred other people extra-judicially rendered to Nayib Bukele’s concentration camp by Trump and his minions without any due process of law. This cannot be allowed to stand. I expect this case and the outrage over it will expand over the coming few weeks, and that it will be the subject of as-yet-to-be-organized protests—and rightly so.
That said, there are an endless string of outrages to protest. This Saturday presents two stellar opportunities to do so. I urge my eastern Washington readers to attend one or both. The first is near and dear to me as a cancer patient still alive on account of innovative treatment breakthroughs that only came about thanks to federal funding of university-based research. Notably, this week Harvard University, now with the support of Stanford and Yale, stood up to the illegal and unconscionable Trump threats to withhold already Congressionally-allocated funds. (For what’s at stake I recommend this post and its links.)
Keep to the high ground,
Jerry

B A Clark Park- 3922 N Normandie St. Spokane WA
Join the Young Activist Leaders of PJALS to say, “Money for People, Not for War!”
As working people all over the country file to pay more taxes than billionaires and corporations, Trump pledges $1 TRILLION for more war, more death, more destruction and dominance -- and hits the working class with a huge tax hike to finance it.
PJALS Young Activist Leaders say: "We call on Congress to protect funding for food supports, Social Security, education, protecting the earth, and other lifeline programs. Our current government doesn’t reflect the morals of our future leaders. The human, financial, and community costs of war are unacceptable!"
Come show up with young leaders!
Bring a sign and a friend to both protests
It takes 3.5 percent of the nation’s population to join in protests to create enough pressure to force policy changes. Nearly 6 million attended the “Hands Off” Protest on April 5 - we are halfway there.
Spokane Indivisible will have a table set up sharing water and stickers at the Science Rally, come on by and say hi.
Spokane Indivisible is not sponsoring either protest but gladly promoting both.
This is how we save our democracy, please plan on attending at least one of the protests on Saturday.
Breathe. Resist. Rest. Repeat
